   BoatLifts That Dry Out;

CASE STUDY: Private Marina on River Thames: The situation that we had to resolve was an EXTREMELY tidal stretch of the Thames with a variable but always SIGNIFICANT flow as the Marina was sited “IN” the River.

There was also the issue of significant debris in the River fouling the mooring as the tide dropped.

The present mooring option was a Fairline Targa that dried out on sandbags twice a day and was not only suffering the associated damage to the hull caused by drying out but any fendering on the boat and dock was not sufficient to prevent damage to the craft given the nature of flow and the fact that it all dried out twice a day.

SOLUTION: A Modified EL 54 with “cross brace feet” on the main black tubes to prevent the vents becoming submerged in the mud and the unit twisting if it dried out on debris.

The mooring system was upgraded to a 3 pole design to cope with the flow and docking guides were fitted to give a better view of where the submerged lift was when bringing the boat back on.

The installation of BoatLifts has made the use of this marina and the storing of craft viable. The Fairline weighed 5 tonnes.

CASE STUDY: Private Berth on Tidal “Lake”: Here the application was different, the lake bed was hard and flat, there was no flow and no danger of significant debris becoming lodged around the lift.

SOLUTION: For this application a steel leg system was used. There was a different problem and that was wave action, as the tide rose, by lifting the structure clear of the sea bed on legs the waves washed over the lift without moving it until there was enough water and it floated.

The Installation of a BoatLift has made this berth useable, before it was not.

   BoatLifts that you can work from;

CASE STUDY: The need to lift and scrub down various Sailing Craft:

Antifouling is becoming more of an issue in its application and also on many Classic or Racing Yachts the application of antifouling is best avoided. This is also true of various power craft, Ribs, Classic Wooden craft and so on.

One option is regular hauling out and scrubbing down, this can via a crane or a slipway be an exspensive process especially on larger craft.

SOLUTION: A standard EuroLift with the addition of Work Platforms and adjustable boat supports. Here various craft can be loaded on to the lift and lifted, the platforms then provide a stable area from which to work on the hull of the craft. You will need to use a lift of a greater lift capacity than the weight of the craft to be lifted this gives the stability required when working. The savings are obvious, the cost of the BoatLift is a fraction of that of a crane, lifting the craft is a much quicker and simpler process, the potential to damage clients craft is considerably reduced.

More craft can then be attended to in the same time period, and fewer staff are required to do the job.

This type of solution also works for much smaller craft and servicing where outboard or sterndrives need to be accessed to change anodes or gear oils.

  DryDock and Floating Boat House Alternatives;

Within the HydroHoist range of lifts we have a Level Lift Unit the LG Lift, this can be used to create level lifting inside a U shaped floating dock. When this is then provided with a roof and side walls a floating boat house, inside which the craft is kept dry but ready for use within 5 minutes has been created.

The LG or level lift system allows large lifting platforms to be created within a free floating structure. Again for a fraction of the cost of a similar crane or dry dock facility a floating dry dock can be created.

This unit is then ultimately mobile as it can be easily taken apart to be moved OR even towed short distances in sheltered and calm waters.

This is a very viable and cost effective alternative for a Marina or Boat Yard compared to traditional dry dock, slip way or crane alternatives.

  Rapid Deployment Lifts;

For applications where launch time is critical, RNLI / Lifeboat / Coastguard applications as well as commercial towing or Police / Harbour Master roles launch time is critical.

The EuroLift can be modified to reduce launch time to 60 seconds or less, this will mean the craft is in the water and ready to go faster than the pre launch checks can be carried out !

The option to increase lift elevation is also easily achieved by the addition of extra “blower motors”

The RNLI Atlantic 75 Lift launches in 60 seconds and recovers in 2 minutes.

Lifting boats is what we do, we have an answer to every possible boatlift application, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
